Dr Sanne van der Lugt is an academic researcher, intercultural trainer and freelance policy consultant on China in Africa and Chinese outward investments. Her research interests are the political economy of China-Africa relations, Chinese outward investments and Chinese business culture, with a current focus on Chinese investments in the telecom sector. Her background in Anthropology, International Political Economy and International Business has allowed her to study these topics from various perspectives. She has worked as a research analyst at the Centre for Chinese Studies at Stellenbosch University in South Africa and led and conducted fieldwork in many African countries. Her research has been commissioned by Oxfam, WWF and the European Commission. She has experience with running a business in China, and provides training and advice for European, Chinese and African companies and government organizations in dealing with respectively African, European and Chinese business cultures. “Improving relations by enhancing understanding” is her motto and strength.
