Dr. Timmo Gaasbeek is a food security expert who for the past 25 years has been working on the nexus between food security, water, conflict and (since about 10 years) climate change. He has experience with NGOs, academia and government in different countries in Asia and Africa. From 2014 to 2018 he lived and worked in Sudan. Since the start of the war in April 2023, he has been modelling hunger and hunger-related mortality in Sudan. Dr. Gaasbeek has an MSc in Tropical Land Use and obtained a PhD on a study of everyday interethnic interaction around an irrigation system in Sri Lanka's war zone.
