Researcher at the Van Vollenhoven Institute

At the Van Vollenhoven Institute, Nienke van Heek is a (socio-legal) project researcher in a project led by Dr. Suliman Ibrahim, entitled ‘The Role of Law in Libya’s National Reconciliation’. The research project addresses areas of concern that may hinder national reconciliation in Libya, and the role of law in this.

Van Heek studied International Development Studies (BSc, Wageningen University and Research Centre), Islam and Arabic (BA, Radboud University Nijmegen) and Middle Eastern Studies (ResMa, Leiden University). Before joining the Van Vollenhoven Institute, she was an intern at Clingendael Academy, after which she worked at the Leiden University Centre for the Study of Islam and Society (LUCIS). She is also an editor at ZemZem.
