Anette Hoffmann

Senior research fellow at Clingendael's Conflict Research Unit (CRU)

Anette Hoffmann works as a Senior Research Fellow at the Conflict Research Unit of Clingendael. Her work focuses on the interaction between economic and political drivers of conflict. She is particularly interested in conditions under which private sector actors and economic incentives in general can prompt and shape transitions towards more inclusive and resilient political settlements.

Anette's research and political economy analyses benefit from extensive on-the-ground experience in the Horn of Africa: she spent over 10 years working in Sudan, South Sudan and Ethiopia for, among others, the UN and German development cooperation (GIZ) as an adviser in conflict-sensitive programming and private sector development in fragile settings.

Anette graduated from Humboldt University of Berlin with a Master’s degree in Political Philosophy. She also holds a Master’s degree in Development Studies from the International Institute of Social Studies in The Hague
