Team Lead Asia Pacific Security (CISS) at Bundeswehr University Munich

Dr. habil. May-Britt U. Stumbaum is Director of the The SPEAR Institute and Team Lead Asia Pacific Security at the Center for Intelligence and Security Studies (CISS) at the Bundeswehr University Munich. She advises the European Union and the German government on foreign and security policy issues in the Asia-Pacific region.

Until July 2020, she was team leader of #APRAN, the European Union's "Asia-Pacific Research and Advice Network", an internal think tank serving the EEAS and EU services, where she co-authored several studies on Chinese influence and hybrid operations. Previous positions include Director of the NFG Research Group on Asian Perceptions of the EU and Fellow of the Einstein Programme on East Asian Security, both at the Free University of Berlin; Senior Research Fellow and Executive Director of the China and Global Security Programme at the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI); Fritz Thyssen Fellow at WCFIA, Harvard University; Director of the International Forum on Strategic Thinking/Senior Researcher, German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP); Head of the Asia Department, Berlin Partner and Seminar Director, Bosch Foundation.
